2018 Festival Program
Event 1: Postcards from Europe and the Antipodes
The Lotti Trio, Alana Blackburn (recorders), Laura Curotta (viola), and Robert Jackson (cello) perform baroque music by J. S. Bach, Telemann, C. P. E. Bach, Vivaldi, Couperin and Lotti, and an original work by Benjamin Thorn, Fracas.
Event 2: Philomèle (a lecture-recital)
Kylie Constantine (soprano/lecturer) presents a performance and lecture on J-B Stuck’s Cantata 1: Philomèle, with Alana Blackburn (recorder), Benjamin Thorn (recorder), Camilla Tafra (cello) and Warwick Dunham (organ).
Event 3: Bach and Sons
Michael Tsalka (harpsichord, organ, piano) and Diana Weston (harpsichord, piano) perform works by J. S. Bach and his sons.
Event 4: The Peasant Cantata
Free dramatised performance of the Peasant Cantata BWV 212 in Hanna’s Arcade, performed by Kylie Constantine (soprano), Shah Biffin (bass), Jodie Ostenfeld (violin), Colin Sholl (violin), April Kelson (viola), Camilla Tafra (cello), Benjamin Thorn (baroque flute), and Nick Hadfield (horn).
Event 5: EphenStephen
Guitar duo EphenStephen perform two original transcriptions of J. S. Bach’s French Suite No. 3 and the aria and 10 canons from The Goldberg Variations, as well as a Marcello/Bach Concerto for Oboe and Strings in D Minor, transcribed by Drew Henderson.
Event 6: Armidale Organ Crawl
An ambulatory concert featuring four organs (Uniting Church, St Paul’s, St Peter’s, Saints Mary and Joseph) featuring Warwick Dunham, Tim Godden, and Lena Schmalz. Like a pub crawl but with an organ recital in each church rather than a beer in each pub.
Event 7: Sky Tribute Concert
A tribute to the 1970s band Sky, featuring renditions of their arrangements of works from the baroque era. Featuring Warwick Dunham (keyboards), Stephen Tafra (classical and electric guitars), Stephen Thorneycroft (classical and electric guitars), Sarah Thorneycroft (electric bass), and Dave van Tongeren (drums).
Event 8: Cello and Dance
Cellist Camilla Tafra performs J. S. Bach’s Suite no. 5 in C minor (BWV 1011), Domenico Gabrielli’s Ricercar no. 6 in G major, and Luigi Boccherini’s Sonata No. 5 in F major accompanied by guitarist Stephen Tafra.
Event 9: Armidale Symphony Orchestra
Stephen Wu conducts the Armidale Symphony Orchestra in performances of Handel, Bach, Haydn, and Mendelssohn’s Violin Concerto in E minor with soloist Eliza Scott.
