2014 Festival Program

Event 1: David Drury

Organist David Drury performs works by Buxtehude, William Byrd, and Bach, and improvises on themes submitted by school students.

Event 2: Sydney Consort

Hans-Dieter Michatz (recorder), Stan Kornel (baroque violin & viola d’amore), and Monika Kornel (harpsichord) present a concert of works by Buxtehude, Handel, Telemann and Bach.

Event 3: Coffee and Other Things

A performance of excerpts from Bach’s Coffee Cantata along with music by J. C. Bach, Casedesus and Telemann, featuring Constance Rolfe (soprano), Benjamin Thorn (baroque flute and recorder), Elana Leske (recorder), Shae Leske (recorder), Cecile Michels (recorder), April Kelson (violin), Jodie Ostenfeld (violin), Jacqui Thompson (viola), Robert Jackson (cello), and Elizabeth Ryan (harpsichord), along with PLC Strings directed by Deirdre Rickards.

Event 4: Cello and Guitar

Cellist Eleanor Streatfeild and EphenStephen share the stage in performances of Bach’s Suite no 6 for Cello in D and an original transcription of Rameau’s Suite in A minor.

Event 5: Armidale Organ Crawl

An ambulatory concert featuring four organs (Uniting Church, St Paul’s, St Peter’s, Saints Mary and Joseph) featuring David Drury, Sjoerd van der Meulen, and Warwick Dunham. Like a pub crawl but with an organ recital in each church rather than a beer in each pub.

Event 6: Concertos and Reinventions

Festival musicians join to perform works by Bach, Handel and Elena Kats-Chernin. Featuring Ruth Strutt (mezzo soprano), Alana Blackburn (recorders), Hans-Dieter Michatz (recorders), Benjamin Thorn (recorders), Margaret Butcher (violin), Sofia Debus (violin), Stan Kornel (violin), April Kelson (viola), Eleanor Streatfeild (cello), Monika Kornel (harpsichord) and Warwick Dunham (organ).

Event 7: The Art of Fugue

Margaret Butcher (violin), Sofia Debus (cello), Alastair Finco (horn) and Stephen Thorneycroft (electric guitar) perform arrangements of Bach’s Art of Fugue.

Event 8: Bach Jazz

Bach and other baroque masters reinterpreted in a jazz idiom with Nick Negerevich (flute), Rob Woodhouse (saxophone), Wendy Griffiths (bass), Warwich Dunham (piano), and Chris Bradley (drums).

Event 9: Festival Evensong

Bach’s sacred music performed in the context for which it was written. Featuring St Peter’s Anglican Cathedral Choir, and festival musicians.
