2010 Festival Program

Event 1: Grand Opening Concert

Australian baroque Brass perform a program of music by Telemann, Johann Heinrich Schmelzer, Bach, Leopold Mozart, Nicola Matteis, Vivaldi and an anonymous work. Featuring John Foster (baroque trumpet), Leanne Sullivan (baroque trumpet), Warwick Tyrrell (sackbut), and David Drury (organ).

Event 2: Bach Jazz Jam

Jazz takes on simple Bach keyboard pieces, with participants Australian Baroque Brass, Sarah Christopher, Warwick Dunham, Louise King, Nick Negerevich, Chris Purcell, Benjamin Thorn, Stephen Tafra, Steve Thorneycroft, Berthold Wicke.

Event 3: The Coffee Cantata

A free dramatised performance of Bach’s Coffee Cantata BWV 211 in Hanna’s Arcade, with Phil Oxley (tenor), Greg McPhan (Schlendrian), Kylie Constantine (Lieschen), Jodie Ostenfeld (violin), Eliza Scott (violin), Marion Barford (viola), Eleanor Streatfeild (cello), Peter Maddox (bassoon), Benjamin Thorn (flute), and Sheila Guymer (harpsichord).

Event 4: Bach Odyssey

Louise King performs two cello suites with narrations by Benjamin Thorn of texts that refer to Bach.

Event 5: Hommage a J. S.

Organist Berthold Wicke performs music by Bach, Schumann, Liszt, Blaude Bolling and Benjamin Thorn.

Event 6: Black and White

Harpsichordists Monika Kornel and Diana Weston join violinist Stan Kornel in a program of Vivaldi, Handel and Bach.

Event 7: Ground Basses and a Dance

Festival musicians improvise on ground basses in a concert dedicated to Bach’s improvisational ability. Participants include: Sheila Guymer, Monika Kornel, Stan Kornel, Cecile Michels, Benjamin Thorn, Diana Weston, Berthold Wicke, and Bruce Myers.

Event 8: Mass with Fiori Musicali

Choir Fiori Musicali enhance the 10am Catholic Mass with works by Claudio Casciolini, Purcell and Bach.

Event 9: Lipman Harp Duo

The Lipman Harp Duo perform a program of Bach, Britten, J. Thomas, Yatsuhasi Kengyo, C. Salzedo, M. Grandjany, Faure, Debussy, A. Hasslemans, Saint-Saens, Ravel and B. Andres.

Event 10: New England Bach Players

Peta Blyth (soprano), Sofia Debus (violin), Eleanor Streatfeild (cello), and Warwick Dunham (organ) perform a program of Bach and Handel.

Event 11: Festival Evensong

Bach’s sacred music performed in the context for which it was written. Featuring Marian Barford, Zac Grafton, Greg McPhan, Jodie Ostenfeld, Errol Russell, Eliza Scott, Lena Schmalz, Jenny Shaw, Eleanor Streatfeild, Berthold Wicke, Jess Wright, St Peter’s Choir, TAS Chapel Choir, and NEGS Choir.
